History :
AIRIC, Automotive Industry Research &
Innovation Center of SAIPA was established in 1993, by SAIPA,
Societe Anonyme Iranienne de Production des Automobiles. AIRIC’s
main site is located in vicinity of its mother company in 15km
Karaj-Tehran Rd, in the renowned industrial area of Tehran, the
capital city. After 3 years of construction and installation of
equipments, AIRIC was formally inaugurated in 1996.
This center, comprising two main sites, owns
different facilities including offices, workshops and laboratories.
There are different workshops for modeling, tooling and assembly.
Also there are different laboratories including emission
measurement, road testing, CMM, non destructive crash testing, NVH
assessment and Modal analysis. Using these facilities along with
extensive knowledge of vehicle design, development and testing,
AIRIC is capable of rendering different services in vehicle design
from concept design to production, minor or major face-lifts, and
testing for Type approval or vehicle manufacturer COP. AIRIC is also
known as the most comprehensive testing center nationwide.
In 2003, SAIPA transferred the ownership of all
the equipments and assets which were installed in AIRIC. This
transfer of ownership from
SAIPA
to AIRIC paved the way for AIRIC to act independently. On the other
hand, the declaration of long term plans such as “SAIPA way” and
“SAIPA Group Road Map” in the same year marked a new outset for
strategic thinking and long term planning in SAIPA. Next guidelines
by Saipa Center for Strategic Studies (SCSS) provided necessary
guidelines for further investments in affiliated companies such as
AIRIC to move toward corporate level goals.
Consideration of the AIRIC’s critical position
in the product development value chain of SAIPA group has been a
great motivation to keep expanding the necessary infrastructures and
capabilities in order to comply with devised new product portfolio
and also to reinforce AIRIC’s leadership role in new product
management in SAIPA group. Therefore, this center has conducted
different initiatives to embrace modern knowledge and process, and
to acquire and train highly potential knowledge workers since 2003.
The rise in capabilities is almost evident in the recent completed
projects as TIBA, a newly designed vehicle from scratch, Xantia II,
a face lift on Xantia as a product of Citroën, SR, a minor face lift
on Renault Logan, and a group of other development projects.
Recently, AIRIC has been modernizing its new
product development process to that of international class, which
will be achieved by the end of year 2011.
